NVIDIA agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.93 billion. The figure in NVIDIA's statement is $12,930,300,000, and its filing with the SEC is dated 2 September.
For those of us running models at home, that is our main supplier being bought by our hardware vendor. TechCrunch reported 3 million models and 18 million developers on Hugging Face, and every model file I have ever downloaded came from there.
What NVIDIA said
Jensen Huang's statement, in NVIDIA's announcement, was unusually specific. It said Hugging Face would stay an open platform, and that developers would still choose their own models, frameworks, clouds and hardware.
The reaction
The reaction on the forums was mixed, and Georgi Gerganov posted his own view of what the deal means for his project.
My own feeling was that nothing would change that month, but any model you rely on should also live on your own disk.
What I would do
I would check that every model I rely on also lives on my own disk.
